CLEAR YOUR MIND WITH A NEW PIERCING
1. Research Your Piercer
Never use a piercing gun, as they can cause severe tissue trauma and cannot be properly sterilized. Always go to a professional studio where the piercer uses sterile, single-use needles. You can find certified professionals near you using the Association of Professional Piercers database.
2. Choose the Right Jewelry Material
Do not compromise on your starter jewelry. Insist on high-quality, hypoallergenic metals to avoid allergic reactions and irritation. Safe initial materials include:
- Implant-grade titanium (best for sensitive skin)
- 14k or 18k solid gold (nickel-free)
- Niobium
3. Healing Times Vary Greatly
Different areas of the body take vastly different amounts of time to fully heal. Earlobe piercings typically take 6 to 8 weeks, while cartilage piercings (like a helix or tragus) can take anywhere from 3 to 12 months.
4. Simple, Consistent Aftercare
Keep your aftercare routine simple to avoid irritating the wound. Clean the area 1–3times a day with a sterile saline wound wash. Avoid harsh chemicals, as they can damage healing skin:
- Don’t use: Hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, or antibacterial soaps.
- Don’t use: Ointments, which trap moisture and block oxygen.
- Don’t touch: Avoid twisting the jewelry or picking at crust, as this introduces bacteria.
5. DONT BE AFRAID!!!!!!!!
ITS A 2 SECOND PIERCING AND IF YOU DONT LIKE IT IN A WEEK OR TWO. YOU CAN TAKE IT OUT
